Academics

USIS is synonymous with qualitative education and it is the school of choice for parents and guardians who insist on excellence. In the pre-nursery, nursery and primary sections, the Froebel system is the norm. Also, a specialized method of teaching popularly known as Montessori is fully applied. The school has invested considerable funds on teaching aids to be well equipped for this task and qualified teachers are continuously retrained. Therefore, USIS is the gateway to quality education for children and wards. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum which is predominantly the Nigerian Curriculum with an infusion of the Cambridge Primary Curriculum. Our pupils are continually assessed progressively throughout each term. In USIS, every subject and every pupil matters, and as a result, much attention is paid to slow learners and they are carried along to the desired standard. After successfully completing nursery education at USIS, admission to the primary section is automatic. For children coming from other nursery schools, a written examination is conducted to determine the suitable class to place them. The transition class is a buffer and grooming ground for many such entrants. In line with the Universal Basic Education (UBE) policy pupils in the final class sit for entrance examinations into USIS Secondary or any secondary school of their choice.

Our School

Early Years

On our site we have children from 3 to 5 years old.
USIS has teaching classrooms, an English classroom, a multi-purpose room, a school hall, a library, a music room and a secure playground. Each teaching room has a Smart-Board. Computer are used to teach information communication technology. The children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum which sets the standards that all Early Years providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. It promotes teaching and learning to ensure children’s ‘school readiness’ and gives children the broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress through school and life.

Junior Years

USIS offers a secure environment where children learn to work in an atmosphere of cooperation and mutual respect. The Junior School consists of teaching classrooms including an information communication technology suite, modern foreign languages classrooms, a music room, a library, a gymnasium and a secure playground. A well balanced timetable ensures the delivery of all subjects over a weekly period. English and Mathematics are recognised as core subjects and taught daily. Children enjoy an extensive extra curricular activity programme, and there is a dedicated music practice room for private music tuition.

Senior Years

The Senior School is for children aged between the ages of 11 – 18.
USIS offers a stimulating environment. Classrooms are used by a range of subjects, alongside specialist rooms equipped for science, IT and computing, music, drama and art. The multifunctional shared hall space is used extensively by both the Senior and Junior schools for performances, exhibitions and assemblies. Breaktimes are a social time for pupils and are spent outside in the school grounds. The Senior School timetable enables a broad and balanced curriculum. The school starts at 7.50 and ends at 3.30. Our extra curricular activities run before, during and after school and offer our pupils an enriching provision in, amongst others, the areas of technology, sport, and the arts.
